Our Story
The first Findoor model emerged in 1989, the prototype being designed and assembled by Jaara brothers Seppo and Tauno in Ii, Finland.
A groundbreaking invention, the Findoor was created in response to a unique need for an item of similar make. At the time there were not any products of comparable style on the market, and as customers visited The Jaara Brothers shop for equipment repairs, the same question seemed to arise time and time again:
“Where did you guys get your door?”
Seppo and Tauno quickly discovered they had created a product that solved many issues other common products were well known for in the market. Since then, over 40,000 Findoor’s have been manufactured and installed all over Scandinavia and North America.

Door choices that meet challenging conditions.
Each door is customized to meet the customer’s needs. The colour and dimensions of the doors as well as placement of the windows are all designed specifically for each job. You can get your Findoor with or without electric operators, as well as windows or completely glazed. Man doors or passage doors are also available options.
Our lightweight folding door opens horizontally with ease, with or without an electric operator. They have been designed to withstand demanding use and climate conditions without adversely affecting the reliability and function.

Growing demand for Findoor continues to have a broad impact on the company. We are currently expanding to several Western European countries and are actively seeking reputable door and construction companies as partners.
Tired of fighting with your barn door or overhead doors?
FINDOOR offers the perfect access solution for any building or facility whether you’re building new or retrofitting. From farm, basic commercial or light industrial uses to demanding environments including emergency response facilities, car washes, mines or utility providers, Findoor is the solution for you for decades to come. Tested for decades in some of the World’s harshest environments (Canada, Finland, Sweden, etc), Findoor continues to be the premiere folding door offered in the market.
The Findoor holds up under heavy usage day after day without needing continuous maintenance. The core of the door is a thermally insulating material that does not absorb moisture, which is then clad in 26 gauge sheet metal with a treated surface. Whenever the door is opened or closed, lifting steel hinges lift the door off of the floor, keeping the weather stripping on the bottom of the door intact and also making light work of using the door without an electric operator. The weather stripping, made of EPDM rubber, holds up well and remains soft and pliable in extreme cold conditions.

Overhead Doors vs Folding Doors
How are they different?
Making the right decision regarding doors can have long-term consequences with respect to not only satisfaction with the utilization of available space, but also expenses. When a larger door is required, the choices often come down to an overhead door versus a folding door. In our several decades of experience, although an overhead door can initially cost less to purchase, it’s most likely to cost more over the long term. Here are a few reasons why, in most instances we recommend that our customers purchase a Findoor:
They save on heating and cooling costs
Generally speaking, the thickness of the door itself is not the most important factor to consider when comparing heating and cooling costs. It is wiser instead, to consider all factors such as the weather stripping seals. Typically, folding doors have fewer seams requiring weather stripping than do overhead doors and therefore less surface area to seal. The weather stripping on Findoor’s are also more weather tight due to the male and female design between panels. The operation of the Findoor hinges require the door’s perimeter edges to squeeze against the jam and the guiding track and locking mechanism cause the door to squeeze against the header face. The weather stripping on the bottom edge of the door squeezes against the floor when the door is closed.
Less maintenance, no safety inspections
When purchasing a door, it it advisable to consider expenses over the entire usable life of the door and determine how much it will cost to keep the door operable for it’s lifespan.
Findoor’s folding door is virtually maintenance free because the number of moving and thus breakable parts in the door opening mechanisms has been minimized. Our maintenance recommendations include lubricating the hinges but otherwise no other maintenance is required.
Due to the fact nothing is opening or closing vertically, even our electrically operated Findoor’s do not require safety inspections, whereas overhead doors typically require a safety inspection on intervals between 1-3 years.
Lighter to use even when operated manually
Even large Findoor’s are easy to operate by hand. For example, a 5 m x 5 m door can be opened and closed manually by a 10 year old person. The hinges lift the bottom edge weather stripping off of the floor, making its operation light work.
In and of itself, the door does not weigh much at all because it is a self bearing structure. Findoor has provided folding doors as large as 16 m wide by 10 m tall that are manually operated, and they work well!
Less need for overhead space and the windows are real glass
The Findoor opens horizontally and tucks away into the space behind the door jamb thus occupying space only adjacent to and not in the door opening. This means that when opened, the entire prepared opening is unobstructed. Overhead doors often require a lot of space above the prepared opening for clearing, typically requiring wall heights to be built larger to allow for the overhead clearance. This is expensive to overbuild and is commonly dead space.
Findoors windows are real thermal glass, so they will remain clear. Windows on overhead doors are often plastic, which commonly warp and will darken over time.
